There’s always something going on at Aladdin Villas for our Residents. You can paint, play cards, get on the pickleball courts, or just come for the coffee. Resident volunteers run every activity. They teach newcomers and keep things going, and whatever you pick, you’ll do plenty of socializing. And what’s even better is that many are All-Year, not just during the Winter Texan Season!

Arts & Crafts
The Aladdin Villas Activity Committee sponsors our craft programs. Volunteer instructors and chairpersons help everyone from first-timers to experienced makers.
Art Painting: Classes for beginners and advanced painters in oil, watercolor and pastel. Easels and basic materials are provided to get you started.
Quilting: An enthusiastic group making big quilts, little quilts and special projects. Some tools and patterns are available. In December 2024, the group donated 78 quilts to Texas CASA for children in foster care.
Magic Needles: Knitting, crocheting and other needlework. Yarn is available for items donated to newborns at the hospital and to nursing home residents. You can also bring your own project.
Rug Hooking: Hook a rug that becomes a family heirloom, or make a wall hanging or chair pads. Patterns and hooks are available.
Wood Carving, Chip Carving & Scroll Saw: Tools and instruction for everything from spoons and comic figures to detailed feathers and relief pictures. You can borrow some tools and wood.
Woodworking: A shop with a variety of equipment for your own projects. Someone is usually around to help.
Pottery & Ceramics: A well-equipped studio with potter’s wheels, kilns, clay, greenware, glazes and paints. Instruction goes from beginner to advanced, and “do your own thing” is encouraged.
Paper Crafting: Scrapbooking to preserve photos and memories, plus handmade greeting cards using stamping, embossing and embroidery on paper. Some equipment is available. Bring your own materials.
Stained Glass: Tools, grinders, glass and solder for making sun catchers, windows, lamps, stepping stones and fused glass jewelry.
Show & Tell and Giving Back: Every March, the crafters hold a Show & Tell in the Ballroom on a Saturday morning. The craft groups also donate handmade door prizes and support fundraisers for all Aladdin Villas activity programs.

As much as there is to enjoy right here at Aladdin Villas, living in the Rio Grande Valley opens the door to even more things to see and do.

For something indoors, the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) in McAllen offers changing exhibitions, art, science and special programs throughout the year.
And when you’re ready for a change of scenery, South Padre Island and the Gulf Coast make an easy Valley getaway for beaches, wildlife, sightseeing and a relaxing day by the water.
